Dr T(yndale) John Rendle-Short was Foundation Professor and Head of the Department of Child Health in the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, a post he held for 24 years.
In 1981 he was made a Member of the Order of Australia for services in medicine and infantile autism. The obituary in a secular paper, the Suncoast Daily said:
HIS pioneering research into the importance of early childhood autism diagnosis was “remarkable” and praised around the world.
Renowned Professor John Rendle-Short, who retired to Buderim in the late 80s, improved the lives of thousands of families with his passionate dedication to understanding the neuro-biological disorder.
And now his legacy will live on through his great work. …
Autism Queensland chief executive officer Penny Beeston said he was a brilliant man.
‘Prof’, as he was affectionately known, was married to Angel until her death in 2006. They had five daughters and one son, 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
